Darrin is passionate about using his advocacy skills to promote the retention of indigenous rights and freedoms, in addition to advising indigenous governments as they move closer to self governance.
Darrin Blain
For 25 years, Darrin has been representing First Nation people and advising their governments. From humble beginnings with the first Legal Aid office on Reserve Land in Canada to the prestigious MLT Aikens law firm, to starting his own firm, Darrin has also been in-house Counsel to two of the largest and progressive First Nations in Canada.
Darrin was Counsel on the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and has represented hundreds of people on their claims for physical, emotional, sexual and cultural abuse that happened in the Government of Canada’s residential schools and also in day schools
Darrin holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB, 1996) from the University of Alberta. He is a member of the Law Societies of Alberta (1997), Saskatchewan (2012), and British Columbia (2018). He completed the Harvard Law School Program on Negotiation in 2015 and the ADR Institute of BC Arbitrator Training in 2017 in his continuing pursuit of knowledge.
